I’m gonna be talking about tanks. Tanks include troops such as Knight, Royal Ghost, Ice Golem, Giant, Bowler, Giant Skeleton, Mega Knight, PEKKA, Lava Hound and Golem. It shouldn’t be surprising that supercell pays too less attention to tanks and more attention towards other cards.
So first off, tanks do too much damage. Remember Clash of clans? The tanks did damage but that was because there were walls blocking their way. In Clash royale however, they deal lots of damage, while still being the tanks they are.
Lets take a hog and a giant for example,
The giant costs 1 elixir extra, but it’ll impact the tower more. A hog can deal about more than half the tower’s health, a giant can deal more than three quarter the tower’s health, 1 elixir more for lots of extra damage.
Secondly, tanks are too versatile. Remember Mega Minion? Remember when it fitted in every single deck? Well the same could be said about tanks. Graveyard deck? No problem. Balloon Deck? No arguments there. Hog deck? Jason was here. Three musketeers? Fit in right like a puzzle piece. Don’t have direct damage to the tower? Let a giant do the job. Hell I’ve even seen players win with Pekka Golem decks.
You see a bomber coming to your tower and you have a Hog and Giant in your deck, which do you play? A hog rider will block 1 or 2 shots and then deal about 1 or 2 attacks before dying. A giant will just take the damage like it’s nothing and then set up for a total counterpush.
So a simple giant can take up the job of a Golem, a Hog Rider and an Ice Golem all at once.
A Giant Skeleton can also kill multiple glass cannons at the bridge, or deal massive damage to the tower.
Let’s not forget PEKKAs and Mega Knights, all these people complaining about a hog nerf has definitely not felt the unfair battle against these troops with a hog before.
Thirdly, they lack counters. The inferno tower, inferno dragon, mini pekka , minion horde and PEKKA are the only total counters to them. Some may argue “That’s enough.” but when you list down the counters to a hog, you’ll see why they lack counters. Hell, they lack counter so much it’s straight up difficult not fun to play against them.
OrangeJuice says “If they play a golem behind the left lane, push the right lane and then address the golem and their hog counter separately.” and this has many faults.
They can just use a tornado, now their king tower is activated and they just got a positive elixir trade. Now I have to answer their big push with a disadvantage.
They could just not care about my push. Yes, that’s a thing. I take out their right tower, which they spent no elixir to counter my hog. Now they can spend that elixir on supporting the golem and straight up taking 3 crowns compared to my petty 1 crown.
Fourth of all, they promote spell gameplay. You wanna know why cards such as Poison, Lightning and Clone are so highly used compared to something like a Heal Spell (Which noone uses)? Tanks! You can nerf Poison all you want, hell, you might as well bring back it’s slow and remove all of it’s damage, and tanks will still be used. By nerfing the tank itself, only will you decrease Poison’s usage. Which is why Goison is coming back to the meta, because the nerfs you did towards the giant last year were so unnoticable they were pretty much negligible.
Lastly, their win rates are high. Despite the high use rates of cards such as Hog or Zap, their win rates are so-so (In tournaments). Don’t believe me? Have you seen the Royal Ghost’s win rate? What about the Mega Knight’s win rate? Did you not notice how in Modern Royale, literally everyone brought a Mega Knight to their battles? Let’s give a tank splash, so they cant get countered, why not give him a leap or an invisibility ability while you’re at it, that seems like a great idea.
We are entering a tank meta, you can nerf the cards ladder players want nerfed because they can’t counter it due to skill reasons (Hog rider, Elite Barbarians, Royal Giant) or you can nerf the cards people have difficulty countering it simply because it lacks counters (ROYAL GHOST, PEKKA, Mega Knight).
